The description The second in Sapporo's Nippon Hop series of beers is Guzen no Hoppu Golden Star. This one is made with Hokkaido-grown Golden Star hops and has 5.5% alcohol.
The good

Sapporo's Nippon Hop series started with a pilsner made with Shinshu-wase hops earlier in 2023. This second beer in the series, Guzen no Hoppu Golden Star is another lager beer with 5.5% alcohol. The Nippon Hop series shows off Japan's domestically grown hops which are primarily grown in Hokkaido. For those who prefer a bold hop flavor, this one's flavor and aroma persist to the last drop. It's also got some fruity, citrusy notes. It seems like the focus of this brew is on the hoppiness. I'd get this one again and wouldn't be shy about offering it to guests.

The not so good

I can't complain about this one. It's got a good hoppy flavor to the bottom of the glass. Not a bad follow-up to Hajimari no Hoppu, the first in the Nippon Hop series. Nippon Hop Guzen no Hoppu Golden Star's name says it all. The concept for the Nippon Hop line is to showcase Japanese hops. The guzen in the product name perhaps alludes to stumbling on something a little different and suprising. The Golden Star hop variety is derived from Shinshu-wase hops developed in the early 1900s. They're not spectacular aroma hops but make for a decent lager.
