The description
Asahi Beverage's Wilkinson Dry Gingerale has a new label and container in 2024. The 300 ml PET plastic bottle, rather than glass, contains the classic fizzy drink.
The good
I used to get Wilkinson Dry Gingerale in the 80 yen glass bottles. They're a lot of bother to recycle as fewer and fewer shops put out bins for recycling glass. This week, I spied Asahi Beverage's new Wilkinson Dry Gingerale in 300 ml PET plastic bottles at my local Belx. I couldn't resist. It's got a lovely crisp flavor much like the version in the glass bottles. For the price, 100 yen, it's a good purchase. I served mine over ice. It's great for mixing drinks and the bottle goes in the recycling.
The not so good
I'm torn about buying products in PET plastic bottles and tend to avoid them. But I had to have a taste of the Wilkinson Dry Gingerale in this new container. I've mentioned this before in my reviews. The beverage is named after Englishman John Wilkinson, who discovered a spring with natural carbonation in Hyogo. Asahi adopted the name for its ginger ale brand in the 1970s. It's become a classic, enjoyed as is or as a bar mixer. It's got a great fizz, nice flavor, and the price is right for the quantity.
