The description

In 2025, 7-11 convenience stores feature Korean-inspired dishes in a tie-up with the Korea Tourism Organization. This bowl is dak-hanmari, a Korean variety of chicken broth udon.

The good

In February, I indulged in some Korean-inspired dishes, including a bento box lunch and an onigiri. On my latest visit, I picked up this udon noodle dish inspired by dak-hanmari, a Korean chicken noodle soup. When you open the steaming bowl (the convenience store did that for me), you're enveloped in a rich aroma of chicken broth. The soup broth is light yet deep in flavor, and the toppings are distinctly Korean - a braised potato, mushrooms, slices of leeks, and morsels of chicken. The noodles are chewy and little flatter than udon.

The not so good

admit, I got this at a slight discount as you can clearly see it has the "eco" sticker. It's well worth the full price for this flavorful dish of Korean-inspired chicken noodle soup. Korean food is a little new to me, so I looked up dak-hanmari. The soup tradition common in Seoul. A whole chicken is simmered to make a rich stock. Potatoes and rice cakes are added. Diners dip the contents in soy sauce and garnish it with sides of garlic and chili pepper. The noodles are the finish of the dish, hot pot style. This takeaway version isn't the same, but it's flavorful and tempts me to try my hand at cooking the dish at home.
