The description

Famed tonkatsu restaurant Maisen located in Aoyama produces snack-sized versions of their tonkatsu sando, the pork cutlet takeout version of their signature dish. This one is a fish version.

The good

Have you ever eaten at Maisen, the tonkatsu shop in Aoyama? It's famed for its tonkatsu, pork cutlets, so tender you can cut into them with chopsticks. While shopping at Perie in Chiba Station, I spied these tiny cutlet "hamburgers" produced by Maisen's kitchens. I figured it was a good snack on the train and less fussy to eat than a bento box lunch. Besides the pork cutlet version is this mini fish katsu burger. The burger is made with Alaskan pollock and dressed with tartar sauce. It's a tiny but delicious snack.

The not so good

This is a lovey little taste of Maisen's excellent sandwich version of their fried cutlets. At just a few 100 yen, it's a nice gift or a snack for yourself. A point of pride at Maisen is that their cold takeout dishes are just as flavorful as the dish served at the shop's tables. This little fish sandwich with Alaskan pollock and tartare sauce is delicious. The crunchy finish on the fish contrasts with the chewy bread slices its served between. The treat reminded me of visits to Aoyama for the shop's signature dish.
