On a balmy summer afternoon walk, I took a break at a convenience store. I wanted something tart, sweet, and fizzy. This 500 ml bottle of Iyemon Kyoto Cider stood out. The label is soothing with blue tones and charming illustrations of classic Kyoto produce. The flavour is subtle with hints of green tea, yuzu, and sansho pepper. The light blue colour is natural. It is derived from gardenia flowers. The drink is meant to appeal to adult consumers with its turquoise colour and zippy flavours. I kept the bottle on the counter because it's so pretty.

The presentation of this sparkling drink, Iyemon Kyoto Cider, makes the product. I'd get this one again. In fact, I would look out for it as refreshment for guests just for the label and novel flavour. It's priced about the same as other similar citrus-flavoured drinks. I wonder if my impression of this fizzy drink was influenced by the location. I retreated to the shade of a municipal Manyo garden. These gardens cultivate flowers mentioned in classical poem anthologies. Gazing at a garden with a retro sip is relaxing.
