The good
Indulge me here. This is not merely a product review. It's more of a blog looking back at the history of canned coffee. Before I came to Japan a dog's age ago, I got my morning jolt at domestic chain coffee shops in my home country, Canada. When I first came to Japan, I was surprised to find canned coffee, hot and cold, available in vending machines. For 100 yen or less, either with or without sweetners and milk, I got my fix. This product in Ashi Beverage's Wonda brand is labeled BLACK The Aroma.
The not so good
Asahi Beverage's BLACK The Aroma is a cheap way to deliver your morning char. In most vending machines, the price ranges from 100 to 150 yen. If you stumble out of bed in the morning, this is a cheap hit of caffeine. And it's aromatic and smooth. Did you know that the first canned coffee with milk appeared at the 1970 Osaka Exposition? UCC was the first company to provide the now ubiquitous vending machine coffee. BLACK The Aroma is simply labeled, no sugar, no milk, and has nearly no calories or additives.
