Usually, I pack an aluminum bottle with coffee or tea when I head out on an excursion. This time I opted for Fujiya's Taiwan Lychee Squash which I purchased from a train platform vending machine. Keen observers may recognize the upholstery on the Tobu Noda line trains. The label design is appealing with a patchwork of designs that bring to mind tiled floors. The drink is made with lychee juice sourced from Taiwan. The drink is sparkling, lightly sweet, and the lychee flavour really shines. The drink is priced at 160 yen.

I've tried a few of the squash drinks in the Fujiya lineup. I liked this lychee version and have no complaints about the product. You'll see lemon squash in aluminum cans in station vending machines and squash drink mix in the supermarkets. This version in a PET plastic bottle, Taiwan Lychee Squash, is subtly flavoured and refreshing. But look a little harder at the label, and you'll see this is a "kikan gentei", limited-time product. Enjoy it while it lasts. The appealing label and seasonal flavour make it nice to look at, too.
