The description
Meisei foods teams up with regional ramen shops to produce instant ramen bowls. This one is Kadoya Shokudo's wonton noodles with chicken broth, menma, and chashu.
The good
It's spring but some evenings it's chilly. I craved a bowl of ramen one evening and opted for a bowl of cup ramen. At FamilyMart, I spotted this cup ramen in a wide bowl. The label has a medallion indicating that Meisei Foods teams up with regional ramen shops. This version is based on Osaka's popular Kadoya Shokudo wonton noodles. The non-fried noodles are chewy and stretchy, the wontons are luscious, and the chicken and bonito soup base is enhanced with mackerel, boiled dried, and kombu. It's warming and flavorful.
The not so good
For the price, the quality of noodles, and the toppings, this is a pretty good bowl of cup noodle. To be honest, the last time I was in Osaka, I focused on okonomiyaki when dining out. I can't say I've been to Kadoya Shokudo to sample their wonton noodle dish. However, this noodle dish made me feel nostalgic. The texture of the noodles reminded me of a popular Hong Kong style wonton house in Vancouver, Canada. The broth is characteristic of Japanese chuka soba. It's a nice combination. For a late-night warming bowl, this is good.
