In very hot weather, drinking lots of fluids is important as you lose a lot of water due to perspiration. In the autumn, as the temperature drops, the humidity does, too. Replenishing fluids is just as important. Various beverage companies produce "fruit water", flat drinks with some portion of fruit juice. This one made by Elbee, is Wanashi water. The drink has less than 1% nashi pear juice and is sweetened with grape juice and aspertame. The drink captures the juicy flavor of the nashi Asian pear harvested in autumn.

The summer 2023 heat took its toll on the nashi pear crop. Growers in Chiba Prefecture, one of the centers for nashi orchards, could not sell their damaged fruit. This drink, Wanashi water, uses domestically grown nashi pears (other Asian countries grow varieties of the fruit), but the package doesn't indicate the specific location. The drink contains a low amount of juice yet has a crisp and sweet nashi flavor. Some people drink it straight, others use it as a base for shochu highballs. Another treat is to mix it with milk and serve it over ice.
