My day starts with a black cup of coffee, depending on a single cup coffee dripper I received as a gift years ago. You might have seen it in one of my posts on the theme of sustainability. It finally wore out, the filter separating from the frame. Off to the Daiso I went, looking for a similar coffee dripper. Daiso carries coffee filters and gadgets. The item I settled on is labeled oritatami cohi dorippa. It's made of springy stainless steel and folds up easily. I got a package of coffee filters to go with it.

I'm pleased with this small coffee gadget, and it looks like it will hold up to daily use. Comparable coffee drippers are 10 times the price. Unlike the retired coffee dripper, this one is designed for use with paper coffee filters. You can get 100 pieces for 100 yen at Daiso. I've been learning the art of slow pour-over with this item. If you choose to use small filters suitable for single cups of coffee, you have to pour slowly and carefully. The result is a smooth cup of joe. My only regret is that it creates a little more waste. To get the most out of the coffee and the filter, I pour two cups at a time.
