The description

Kyoei Foods is the Japanese distributor for MJB coffee. This 500 gram bag of Army Green. The beans are sourced primarily from Brazil and Vietnam. I found it at a Belx supermarket.

The good

I blanched when I saw the price of a 500-gram bag of ground coffee on Amazon Japan. Between climate change, logistics, and political issues, your cup of joe costs a lot more. Like, 100% more since 2024. I gave up on Amazon Japan coffee and scoured the shelves at the local Belx supermarket where I scored this bag for 1000 yen. MJB's Army Green is a blend of mostly Brazilian arabica and Vietnamese robusta ground coffee. The product website's flavour profile radar chart rates it high for aroma, sweetness, and bitterness.

The not so good

I was a bit hesitant as I tend to be a bit of a coffee snob. But MJB's 500-gram bag of Army Green is a decent cup of char. I'd also say it's good value for money at 1000 yen at Belx. This is a blended coffee with two varieties of beans. I've been relying on arabica to get my morning fix. This one blends arabica and robusta (the ratio isn't specified). The robusta from Vietnam gives it a lot of kick as it's higher in caffeine than its Brazilian cousin. It has notes that remind me of Vietnamese-style coffee with condensed milk.
