There's a lot more to Daiso 100 yen shops than just 100 yen items. Recently, I bought two wireless mouses, mice? for 500 yen each and I'm pleased how they stand up to regular use and hold charges forever. So when I spotted this wooden cutting board for 500 yen, I didn't pass it up. This cutting board, made from acacia wood, is about the size of a dinner plate and has a handle with a hole in it. You could run a cord through it or hang it on a hook out of the way. Acacia wood is hard, has natural oils that make it water-resistant.

Comparable plastic cutting boards are only 100 yen, but a wooden cutting board is preferable every time. I think this is a good buy for 500 yen. The wood is a good dupe for other more expensive hardwoods, it's not on an endangered species list, and it sheds water. That means it doesn't harbor bacteria as easily. It's not a huge work surface as you can see from the photo (with a green pepper placed on it to indicate the size). But it doesn't take up much room and you can hang it out of the way. My knife left a few marks in it, but a little mineral oil will make them disappear.
