The description
Tomita Chuka Soba and 7-11 convenience stores collaborate again with this chilled tsukemen with two slices of chashu, menma, ramen egg, and greens using Tomita's signature tonkotsu broth.
The good
The famed Tomita Chuka Soba shop based in Matsudo City, Chiba Prefecture is a shop that customers will line up for hours to get into. If you can't make it to Matsudo in summer, you can find their tsukemen in 7-11 convenience stores. The broth is a rich blend of tonkotsu, pork bone broth, and fish soup. The result is a complex flavor that's really satisfying with the plump noodles. I wanted to really savor this so I transferred the noodles to my favorite ninja-themed ramen bowl, poured over the hogushi mizu, a small bag of liquid meant to loosen up the noodles, and then the luscious broth.
The not so good
I've had Tomita Shokudo's chuka soba. It's an experience that requires a bit of patience. The restaurant sells tickets to diners much like any ramen shop, but then they tell you when you'll be served. You might have to come back in an hour! It's that popular. Getting the 7-11 version might take some luck, too. The noodles sometimes sell out quickly. And is it as good as the shop version? I'd say it comes close. You might get spoiled, too, after you try these. The texture of the noodles is way better than most of the take out noodles I've tried.
