The description
In July 2025, Koikeya launched Gokai Nori Shio, a variation on the Pure Potato seaweed-and salt-flavoured chips. The chips come in three package designs in collaboration with period drama "Berabou".
The good
If you follow my reviews, you know that I'm a potato chip fiend, often indulging in Koikeya Pure Potato chips. See my place reviews? You'll see I am drawn to historical and atmospheric spots, too. So Koikeya's Pure Potato Gokai Nori Shio chip packaging design got me. Three illustrations appear on the packages in collaboration with a taiga dorama, a historical series. "Berabou ~Tsutajue Ka no Yumebanashi~". The potato chips are made from domestic potatoes and generously sprinkled with nori seaweed and salt.
The not so good
Koikeya's Pure Potato Gokai Nori Shio is flavourful and satisfying. Note that in previous years, the brand's chips came in 60 gram bags. These days with rising prices, this item has experienced "shrinkflation", only 50 grams. You might not miss that 10 grams until you notice the price is the same. The chips are delicious, and the three package designs are amusing. You'll see historic ukiyoe images of Edo-era people. Look closer, and you'll notice they have little sprinkles of nori on their lips.
