The description

Koikeya's Strong brand of potato chips offers Shin Remon in a 53-gram bag. The chips are dosed with triple the amount of seasonings compared to previous versions.

The good

Overheated potato chip fiends, heads up. Koikeya added Shin Remon, Spicy Lemon, to their lineup of Strong potato chips. It's one of three as part of the revamp of the brand in summer 2026. These chips have three times as much seasoning as the previous incarnation of Strong brand. The Shin Remon version is tart an a little spicy. You'll see them in convenience stores priced at about 160 to 170 yen for a 53-gram bag with a more sophisticated package design. The labels have bold images that represent the flavours and ingredients.

The not so good

Shin Remon is good! The chips are packed with flavour. You get a combination of refreshing citrus, a sharp kick of chili pepper, and the savory taste of chicken. I'd get these again. I think they're a treat worth the price of about 160-170 yen. Note the flavour was created in response to consumer preferences. Koikeya's survey reveals that folks crave spicy, tart, and savoury flavours as a relief from the summer stress and heat. You'll also see that the top of the package indicates the product staves off heat stroke. Electrolytes delivered by umami, spice, and citrus do the trick.
