The description

Chiba kun no piinatsu age is a product of Chiba Peanuts Ltd. The 25-gram package contains five bags of fried peanut crackers. The product is available at souvenir shops in Chiba City.

The good

This peanut snack suitable for gift giving has an appealing package with the image of Chiba-kun, Chiba Prefecture's mascot. His profile is shaped like the outline of the prefecture's borders. The background of the package is a traditional textile pattern. The contents are five small packets of rare crackers. This kind of cracker is made with mochi-gome, glutinous rice. However, the big feature is Chiba-grown peanuts, a product for which the prefecture is famous. The snacks are a little sweet and lightly spicy.

The not so good

On my way home from a business trip to Chiba City, I picked up this souvenir for my colleagues. For the price and the appealing package, it looked like a good bet. The promotional website describes these treats as suitable for kids, but I figure they'd appeal to kids at heart. The five small packets have the same graphics and background as the larger package. The snacks are addictive! They're a great mix of sweet, spicy, and crunchy with a good peanut flavor. However, they're not a cracker so much as little sticks. You get the crumbs all over your fingers. Great for little hands.
