Sunday evening comfort food
Since I moved to Japan my mum, back in the U.K., has continued to send me packets of instant custard from the nation's supermarkets as I once remarked during my early years in country that I was having trouble finding any.
The consequence of this is that I'm getting sent packets of custard on a regular basis to the point that I'm unable to keep up with the consumption. During apartment cleans I'm often turning up a forgotten stockpile of custard powder packets perilously close to an expiration date.
I'm currently working my way through a batch now. When I was a kid I'd quite happily lap up a bowl of "just custard." These days I need something in it.
Enter this very Sunday then posh deli / sundry item store Dean & Deluca. I don't make a habit of going to Dean & Deluca but it is super nice and there is a branch in Nihombashi Takashimaya where I was today. My eyes soon zoomed in on the slices of apple crumble that were furnishing the deli counter.
Custard and apple crumble? Well, God bless you ma'am if that isn't a fine taste of home to help fend off the horrors of a Monday morning. I swooped in for the purchase, even it was over 500 yen for just one slice. Dean & Deluca, innit?!
So, Dean & Deluca apple crumble meets cheap instant custard from Asda ... in Japan. Hold on a moment Monday morning, I've got some comfort eating coming my way!
What goes well with your instant custard? What are your go-to Sunday evening comfort foods, or is that just me?

Yum! For me it's always Christmas pudding + custard. I did the same thing one year, asked one of my friends back home to send me pudding and instant custard packets!

@genkidesu - Nice! I get sent a Christmas pudding during the festive season. You need the custard with it otherwise it's so rich. I used to hate Xmas pudding when I was a kid but I'm rather fond of it now.
