The description
A 230mL cup of frozen milk-based dessert. This is a twist on the standard shirokuma by replacing all of the fruit and beans with two types of peaches and puree.
The good
As mentioned, this is a twist on the regular shirokuma. Rather than pineapple and other fruit, it contains white and yellow peaches with some peach puree mixed in. It's great for peach lovers like myself. There's a big dollop of vanilla ice cream on one side, and it goes almost all the way to the bottom of the cup. The ice cream is soft and creamy, which contrasts with the hard crunch of the shaved ice. For a sizeable dessert, the calorie count is smaller than expected: 207 kcal. It's not small, but definitely better than straight ice cream.
The not so good
The ice cream is there for a reason, I think. As much as I love the taste of peaches, I found myself getting tired of the flavour and relying on the ice cream to cleanse my palette. I also noticed that the condensed milk that I enjoy in the regular shirokuma isn't there. Perhaps the peach puree replaced or overpowered the condensed milk. Either way, that savoriness is missing from this version of shirokuma, along with the texture that comes along with it. I found myself having to take a break from eating the dessert just to reset my taste buds. The amount of frozen peach chunks felt a bit lacking as well, and I think the makers could have put smaller chunks into the shaved ice portion to alleviate some of the texture problems I have.
