Early January Snow!

We actually got some snow last night here in Chiba! In fact, it seems like a lot of the greater Tokyo area got some snow.
Snow had been forecast for January 2nd for several days, but it wasn’t a given. It’s quite early for snow here, especially since we had several relatively mild winter days before that. As late as 4pm yesterday, I was convinced it would come to nothing - the wind was cold, and there were some very ominous clouds in the distance, but the sun was still out and the temperature just didn’t seem that low. After sunset, though, the temperature plummeted; by 8pm, we had flurries, and by 9pm, the ground was carpeted in white and my kids were out frolicking in it not long afterwards.
Snow is a bit of a novelty most winters here. There are usually flurries a few times, but it only typically sticks once or twice a season. Some winters, it doesn’t at all. It gets quite exciting when it does happen!
