The description

Another hilled treat from the 7-11 for the summer, the Sponge Cake with White Chocolate (チョコ生サンド) costs 240 yen before tax, and about 259 yen after tax.

The good

When I bought this, I was a little concerned that the white chocolate and cream together would be a bit much. Fortunately, it turned out I had nothing to worry about, and I think it’s probably due to the sponge cake. The packaging tells me that it’s made using milk from Nasu Shiohara; while I’m not sure it’s the deciding factor that it’s being sold as, the cake nonetheless is very nice and works to have the white chocolate and cream complement one another rather than overpower. The creaminess also helps with this; while it’s definitely a very sweet treat, it manages to avoid going too far.

The not so good

I don’t really have any objections to this. Like I said above, I’m not sure that milk from one place or another is really that much of a dealbreaker (though I do like Nasu the place, and I’m happy to support them). The packaging is quite cute, though, and the serious-looking cow definitely thinks you should try this sweet too. It’s a nice alternative if you’re not quite looking for an ice cream but you want something a bit cooler than a standard warm or room-temperature cake - such as when it’s 34 degrees outside, for example! It’s pretty nice and while I’m not going to quite give it five stars, I can see myself probably buying it again.
