Osaka's Accommodation Tax
When I checked in at a business hotel in Osaka the other day, the receptionist suddenly asked me for 100 yen. "What for?", I asked, and he told me that it is the new accommodation tax in Osaka to help improve the city's attraction for travelers.
I had no idea what it was, and more importantly, I was surprised that he asked for me over the counter when I made the whole payment online. It almost sounded like a scam if they did not have a poster explaining the new tax right behind me. Apparently the fee is based on how expensive your hotel room is as well.
Just a heads up to everyone!
