Shiogama Port Day Festivals Starts Sunday

That's right! It's back! Once again, the summer festival atmosphere will stream through the seaside town of Shiogama in Miyagi prefecture this Sunday, July 19th, in preparation for port day festival to be held on Monday, July 20th.

This will be the 79th iteration and the festival boasts 8,000 fireworks to be set off over the bay.

There are a variety of places to view the fireworks from including street level which is free or box seating atop the AEON which may cost 3000 yen or more depending on the options presented. One year,y husband and I even watched from a small boat on the bay.

One of the best places to watch from is Shiogama Shrine, with its fantastic view.
