How to get "My Number" Points using PayPay
Currently you can get up to 20,000 yen worth of digital money by registering you’re "My Number" Card for certain services. The process is quite simple. You only need your "My Number" Card and your phone.
If you haven’t yet applied for your "My Number" Card you will have to do so with your local city or ward office until the end of September to be eligible for the points.
Once you have your card you need to download the "My Number point"-app and the "My Number portal"-app. You can choose from a variety of different payment services to receive your points. A list is available here. I would recommend to choose the one you use most often.
I decided to receive PayPay points as PayPay is a service that a lot of stores accept and you can also use in on amazon. To apply for the "My Number" points open the PayPay app and select the "My Number point" button in the menu.
The PayPay app will guide you through the whole process. You receive 7.500 points for each registering you’re "My Number" Card as your health insurance card and for registering a bank account to receive government payments.
At certain points in the process you will have to put your "My Number" Card on your phone and enter the passwords you defined when receiving the card to use the digital ID stored on the card. If you have just received the card the process might not work immediately as it can take a few days for the digital ID to become active. If you get an error just try again in a few days.
Once you are done with the registration it can take one or two days for the points to arrive. Once you got the points you can use them just like regular PayPay points.
For the the remaining 5.000 points you can choose whether they will be awarded for charging your PayPay balance or for doing payments with PayPay. Either way you will have to charge 20,000 yen to your PayPay account or your will have to spend 20.000 Yen in PayPay to receive the full 5,000 points.
You can charge your PayPay balance by transferring money from a bank account, using sales from the PayPay flee market app or at a convenience store with cash.
The points are awarded immediately upon charging. The my number points can only used to pay via PayPay and cannot be transferred elsewhere.
In the PayPay app you check if the points have been awarded or whether you need to do anything else to receive them.
