How to visit the Lovot Café in Kawasaki

I recently visited the new Lovot Café in Kawasaki. As currently, the website is only available in Japanese, I wanted to provide a short guide to the Café in English. Lovots are the newest Japanese pet robots that were just released last year. If you think about buying one or just want to experience them once you can play with actual Lovots in the Lovot Café in Kawasaki that opened this autumn.

The Café is situated on the second floor of the Kawasaki Lazona Shopping Center that you can reach directly from the station. You need a reservation for the Café. You can reserve on their website for free. A visit is always timed for 70 minutes. If you plan on going on a weekend, I recommend reserving about 1to 2 weeks in advance. For a weekday, a few days should be sufficient.

Once you enter the café you will be shown to your seat. You have to order one food item per person. All food items come with one drink that is included in the price. Most are priced at around 2.000 Yen.

While waiting for your meal a staff of the café will bring one Lovot to your table and explain how to play with it. Then you can play with the Lovot at your table for about 25 minutes. Unfortunately, you cannot choose a Lovot and it is random which one will be assigned to your table. Make sure to always hold the Lovot as they can’t sit on their own on the benches.

Once the food is ready the Lovot will be brought to a charging station and you can enjoy your meal. For the last 10 minutes of your visit, you can play with several Lovots on the Lovot stage at the entrance of the Café. A staff of the Café will come and get you once it's your time so make sure to wait and not leave the Café once you are done eating.

You cannot get on the stage, but you can sit on the edge. At the stage, there are several Lovots roaming around freely that you can play with freely. Taking photos and videos is allowed as well.

After the 10 minutes are over a staff will let you know, and you can proceed to the cashier and pay. I hope you have fun when visiting the Café. Let me know how you liked the Café in the comments.

*Editor's note:  This post was submitted prior to the declaration of a state of emergency.  We would advise people to check the cafe website to stay up-to-date with the cafe's business hours and virus prevention measures, as well as to keep informed about the broader situation regarding the novel coronavirus outbreak and the advise, recommendations and requests of authorities relating to that.
