Working as an influencer

I am registered on a Japanese platform where you can find influencer jobs. Most jobs require you to have a least 5,000 followers but prefer people with more followers so I usually have a hard time finding jobs.

Last month I saw an ad that only requested 1,000 followers. It was about promoting skincare products. I applied with not much hope but to my surprise, I got the job.

I received a skincare product from the company that was looking for promotion via mail and was asked to report my impression on Twitter together with some photos. The company gave me instructions on how to take the photos, which hashtags to use, and which account to tag for the tweet.

I had some questions as I was unsure about some aspects, so I contacted them. They replied quickly and helped to clear up my worries.

I only received the product a few days before I had to write the tweet so I could only give a first impression, but apparently, that was not an issue.

For this job, I did not have to provide a draft, but for other jobs, I have seen that it is rather common that you provide a draft first and the company revises it if necessary.

Once I posted the tweet I was asked to send the URL via message on the platform. After confirmation, I could give the company a review and had to wait for my payment. The payment was scheduled for the end of the following month. As this was my first time working with the platform and the company I was a little anxious if everything would go smoothly.

But there was nothing to worry about. At the end of the month, I received a statement and could confirm the payment in my bank account.

As you can imagine, you don’t get a lot of money for jobs that only are asking for 1,000 followers but considering that I also got a free skincare product and all I had to do was take a few photos and post one tweet I consider this a nice side hustle.

What I was a little afraid of is that the company might ask people to overly praise the product but I was rather free in formulating my impression and did not receive any complaints after I posted the tweet.

I think I will try to get more of these jobs in the future if I find companies with interesting products that accept applicants with not so many followers.
