How to sell on PayPay Flea Market
You probably have heard of Mercari, a popular flea market app in Japan. However, Mercari takes a 10% fee which is quite high. Yahoo offers a similar app that takes only half the fees of Mercari. Here I want to explain how you can sell on PayPay Flea Market.
As this is a Yahoo service you will need a Yahoo account to use it. If you don’t already have one, you can make one for free.
PayPay Flea Market can be used via app or form a browser. You will need the app to create new listings, though.
To register, you only have to choose a name and set a profile picture.
Then you can start selling.
This is the form to create a new listing.
Creating a listing is easy. You just take a few pictures, enter the name and description of the product and finally enter the price and select a shipping method. As an additional option PayPay Flea Market also makes it possible to add videos of the product.
Creating listing is for free. You only pay the seller fee once you sold your first item. The seller fee at PayPay Flea Market is only 5% of the price of the sold item.
After a listing is sold you simply have to prepare it for shipping and take it to the nearest post office or convenience store. The app creates a QR-Code that you only have to show to the convenience store staff / scan at the devices at the post office. You don’t have to write a label.
Unlike Mercari where you can choose between anonymous shipping methods and “regular” shipping methods, PayPay Flea Market only has anonymous shipping methods available. Depending on the size of your product these can be cheaper or more expensive than regular shipping so make sure you check the shipping cost in advance.
When the item arrives at the buyer´s they have to confirm receipt and you will be credited the amount minus the shipping cost and the seller fee.
The credit can be used in the app to buy things, but you can charge it to your PayPay account and use is as digital cash as well.
Unlike MerPay that only a few shops accept, PayPay is accepted by many shops and several online shops. But you can also easily request a transfer to a bank account. A transfer fee of 100 Yen will be charged, however.
If you are interested in trying out PayPay Flea Market feel free to use my referral code "F5WX8H". You will get a credit of 300 Yen if you enter this code when registering.
