Nikko Tobu Passes

One of the typical sightseeing spots for tourists coming to Tokyo and wanting to go on a day trip to the neighbouring prefectures is Nikko. Nikko is located about 140 kilometers north of Tokyo in the mountains of Tochigi Prefecture. The city is popular for the famous Toshogu shrine, Lake Chuzenji, the beautiful marshland and nature with many big waterfalls. Also the popular Onsen area Kinugawa with many nice onsen is in the same city.

There are a few ways to go to Nikko. If you don´t go there on a bus tour, the best and easiest option is to use the local train from Tokyo. The Tobu railway offers a great deal for people who like to go to Nikko, especially if you going there for more than one day, Tobu railway is the best choice.
You can choose between three different passes for the Nikko area:

Nikko all area pass
The pass can be used for 4 days in the Nikko area. It is valid for a round trip on the Tobu railway between Asakusa and Shimo-imaichi Station. You can also use all buses in central Nikko and around Lake Chuzenji and the Kinugawa Onsen area.

Fee for the main shrines are not included in the pass but you can get a discount at the following tourist facilities:
•    Nikko Natural Science Museum
•    Akechidaira Ropeway
•    Lake Chuzenji Motor Vessel Regular Service (operates from mid-April to late November)
•    Low-Emission Bus (operates from mid-April to late November: Akanuma-shako to Senjugahama)
•    Nikko Kirifuri Skate Center (winter season, outdoor skating rink)
•    Kosugi Hoan Museum of Art, Nikko
•    Nikko Astraea Hotel
•    Tobu World Square
•    Kinugawa Koen Iwaburo
•    EDO WONDERLAND Nikko Edomura
•    Kinugawa Onsen Ropeway
•    Monkey Mountain
•    Kinugawa Line Kudari (river boat ride) (operates from mid-April to late November)

Nikko city area pass
The Nikko city area pass is valid for 2 days in the Nikko area. It is also valid for a round trip on the Tobu railway between Asakusa and Shimo-imaichi Station and for the buses in the center of Nikko. It is perfect if you just want to visit the popular shrine area and for making a stop at the Kinugawa onsen. The ticket costs 2480 Yen during weekdays and 2960 Yen on the weekend.
You will also get special discounts in the same facilities like with the Nikko all area pass.

Theme park & Nikko area city area pass
The last special pass for Nikko is for all theme park lovers. Like the others passes you can use it for a ride between Asakusa and Shimo-imaichi Station and also for the busses to the shrine and theme park area. The pass is valid for 2 days. You can choose between 3 different options for that pass:

The Tobu world square park is a nice small miniature park with popular sightseeing spots from Japan and the whole world. Walking around that park is like traveling around the world. It is really a great place also for kids!

The Edo Wonderland wonder brings you back to the old edo period. It is a great theme park for enjoying the old times and see the life of the people from the edo period. They offer many shows like a samurai show or traditional dance performances. You can even dress up in the edo style. It is a great experience for the whole family.

Depending on what you like to do in Nikko, you can choose the right pass for you. The passes are a great deal for exploring the area and even in a group it is very reasonable.
