One of the typical sightseeing spots for tourists coming to Tokyo and wanting to go on a day trip to the neighbouring prefectures is Nikko. Nikko is located about 140 kilometers north of Tokyo in the mountains of Tochigi Prefecture. The city is popular for the famous Toshogu shrine, Lake Chuzenji, the beautiful marshland and nature with many big waterfalls. Also the popular Onsen area Kinugawa with many nice onsen is in the same city.
There are a few ways to go to Nikko. If you don´t go there on a bus tour, the best and easiest option is to use the local train from Tokyo. The Tobu railway offers a great deal for people who like to go to Nikko, especially if you going there for more than one day, Tobu railway is the best choice.
You can choose between three different passes for the Nikko area:

The last special pass for Nikko is for all theme park lovers. Like the others passes you can use it for a ride between Asakusa and Shimo-imaichi Station and also for the busses to the shrine and theme park area. The pass is valid for 2 days. You can choose between 3 different options for that pass:
The Tobu world square park is a nice small miniature park with popular sightseeing spots from Japan and the whole world. Walking around that park is like traveling around the world. It is really a great place also for kids!
The Edo Wonderland wonder brings you back to the old edo period. It is a great theme park for enjoying the old times and see the life of the people from the edo period. They offer many shows like a samurai show or traditional dance performances. You can even dress up in the edo style. It is a great experience for the whole family.
Depending on what you like to do in Nikko, you can choose the right pass for you. The passes are a great deal for exploring the area and even in a group it is very reasonable.
I´m a german girl living in the center of Tokyo, but my true love belongs to the countryside of Japan (especially Chiba and Hokkaido). I love traveling Japan and explore hidden areas.
I want to help people with my articles to get in touch with the Japanese culture and all the beautiful places you can explore.
Besides traveling around, I love trains, handcraft and my little rabbits.
