Updated maps to help you explore Chofu’s Jindaiji area

Updated English-language maps are now available to help you discover one of the most fascinating and rewarding areas of Chofu, the Jindaiji Temple area.

The two updated maps, published by the Chofu City Tourist Association, serve as an introduction to the area around Jindaiji Temple - covering sightseeing spots, stores serving the famous Jindaiji soba noodles, and other points of interest.

Jindaiji Temple and its surrounds occupy an area of Chofu that retains much of its original Musashino landscape. It’s an area blessed with abundant nature and natural spring water.

One of the oldest temples in the Kanto region of Japan, Jindaiji Temple is said to have been founded during the Nara period. The temple houses a number of treasures, including a statue of the seated Hakuhoh Buddha, designated a National Treasure in 2017, and the temple bell which has been designated by Japan as an Important Cultural Property.

Lining the approach to Jindaiji’s main gate are a variety of stores, including teahouses and restaurants serving Jindaiji soba noodles, that are popular among temple visitors.

Along with the “Jindaiji Temple neighborhood walking map,” which covers the temple area and nearby Jindaiji soba noodle restaurants, among other points of interest, the Chofu City Tourist Association has also published a map detailing a walking route between Chofu Station and Jindaiji Temple. The map introduces a number of points of interest along a route which can be completed at an enjoyable stroll.
