Jindaiji Castle Ruins

The Jindaiji Castle Ruins were designated as a Tokyo Historic Site in 1998, and a National Historic Site on July 26, 2007.

The former site of Jindaiji Castle is located on a corner of a tongue-shaped formation at about 50 meters in elevation along the southern edge of the Musashino Plateau, which stretches across the southern part of the Kanto Plain.

On the eastern side of the plateau is a marshland about 90 meters wide formed by a dissected valley, and on the western side is a tributary with a concentration of natural springs. On the south side is the Kokubunji Terrace and its 15-meter shift in elevation from the plateau, offering views of the Tama River and the opposite cliff faces towards the south. The ancient temple of Jindaiji is located across the valley to the north of the castle ruins.

The Jindaiji Castle Ruins are located within the aquatic plant garden, which is part of the Jindai Botanical Gardens.
