Monument of Movie Actors and Monument for the Birthplace of Chofu's Film Industry

”Movie town, Chofu” historical monument

The Monument of Movie Actors and the Monument for the Birthplace of Chofu's Film Industry are located on a site that was once the Nikkatsu Tamagawa movie studios, within the Tamagawa 5-chome Children’s Park.

Before the war, when the current Kadokawa Daiei Studio was known as the Nikkatsu Tamagawa studios, it occupied not only the current site of the studios, but also the area extending from Chofu Minami High School to around the Keio Sagamihara Line.

The Monument of Movie Actors is carved with the names of the stars of yesteryear, while the Monument for the Birthplace of Chofu's Film Industry commemorates the history of filmmaking in Chofu. The monuments were constructed to remind people of Chofu’s history as a “movie town.”
