Super Yosakoi 2018 in Harajuku, Tokyo

Next weekend it's time again for my absolute favorite festival: the Super Yosakoi. The festival is held always at the end of August around Harajuku and the Yoyogi park. Yosakoi is a very unique group dance style in colorful dresses, which can only be seen at festivals. Usually the dance is very energetic and performed with lout music and sometimes even singing. It is also often a mix of modern style dance and old traditional Japanese style dancing.

One of the most impressing part are the very colourful and lovley dresses each team is wearing. During the Super Yosakoi you can see performances of around 6000 participants. Most of them are University students, but there are also some older groups and even kids are joining.

Performances are held on three different stages. The biggest one is just at the end of the famous Harajuku bridge, just 1 minute away from Harajuku station.  A smaller second one is just on the other side of the Yoyogi park. Even it is a little bit smaller, there are chairs where you can sit and relax which is a big plus in the summer heat.
Also next to it you can find the Udon festival, which is also held together with the Super Yosakoi. Many different Udon stores from whole Japan are fighting in a competition for your voting. Just try one of their soups and vote if you like it. Perfect for Udon lovers!

The last stage is the parade street next to the Udon festival. Many teams will walk along that street Perfect for people, who want to see many groups in a short time.
Especially for people who are interested in Japanese culture or love colorful dances and dresses, should not miss this event!
