Five generations family day
Do you know of any families with five generations? I have met a couple of people who have great-great-grandchildren, but I don't know them well. I do have neighbors in Japan with four generations, and all living under the one roof! The reason I ask is because today is "Good Five Generation Family Day". I have no doubt in Japan, of all places, there are quite a few families with five generations.
The reason November 5th is "Good Five Generation Family Day" いい5世代家族の日 is because the 11 (for November) is often read as "ii" as a play on how the digits look like two "i"s beside each other. And 5 (for the 5th) can be read "go". They added a "dai" to make it "godai" which means 'five generations' and added the word kazoku too, for family. The day was established by a pharmaceutical company, Novartis.
The aim of making November 5th "Good Five Generation Family Day" is to promote five living generations in the one family as a symbol of healthy and long lived society. I really would love to hear if you do know of any "five generation" families either here or in your home country.
