Cardboard art day

Today, and December 12th annually, is Cardboard Art Day. The date was chosen to represent the creation of things; from step 1 to step 2. The image of moving forward by taking steps, 1, 2 (ichi-ni, 1, 2 (ichi-ni)), a rhyme children use when walking as toddlers, was thought to be an appropriate representation for a day to create art.

Motoko Yamada, a cardboard artist who created the anniversary, said her goal was to "make it a day to convey the joy of 'making things' to children through cardboard art." Motoko Yamada, who works at "Moco-ya, creates a variety of cardboard items, from toys like four-wheeled vehicles and rocking horses to interior decor like desks and chairs.

The photo in this post is of a dinosaur made out of cardboard. The mouth is open and  designed to double as a children's slide. Putting the 'fun' into functional cardboard art!
