I love that there is a day for Lego
I am a huge fan of Lego. I played with it as a child and it is a big part of my children's childhood too. It is probably my favorite present to buy for any child too, because it ticks a lot of boxes of what makes a good educational, interactive, fun toy. So, I love that there is a Lego Day レゴの日 in Japan. And it is perfectly placed on the same day as both "Children's Day" and "Toy Day".
I have no doubt that I am not the only Lego fan in Japan! Or around the world. Indeed, I think it is widely recognized as one of the world's most beloved toys. It is also one of the most enduring as it has remained popular since its inception, almost a hundred years ago, in 1932. What I only learned today is why it is called Lego and its just one more thing to love about the mega-brand: LEGO comes from the Danish phrase "Leg Godt" meaning "Play Well".
Reportedly Lego came to Japan in 1962. And on its 40th anniversary in Japan, in 2002, Lego Day was founded. Today, it is celebrated not only as a toy, but as a tool for creativity, learning and imagination. Every year, around this time you can find several LEGO events on in department stores and malls around Japan. Just today, we were at one in a local mall! Have you been to any LEGO events in Japan? Moreover, have you ever been to LEGOLAND? It's on my bucket list!
