Recognizing Kimono accessories and attention to detail

Among the various anniversaries, observances and commemorations on April 15th annually is Kyoto Kimono Accessories Day 京和装小物の日 in Japan. This one stood out to me, because it recognizes the small but important items that complete traditional Japanese attire.

The small items include things such as half-collars (which also has a day of its own which you will find detailed on City-cost), obidome clasps, furoshiki cloths and other pieces crafted with exquisite attention to detail. These accessories are more than decorative, they express the wearer's sense of season, personality and cultural appreciation.

Presumably the anniversary was established by someone in Kyoto as adding Kyoto to the name of the anniversary highlights the craftmanship of Kyoto's artisans. Of course, there are artisans from other parts of Japan who also contribute to the quiet elegance and craft of kimono accessories.
