The description
Five bite size pieces of Japanese style fried chicken in a cute packet with a toothpick attached to use as a utensil to eat the delicious domestic chicken.
The good
Who doesn't love Karaage kun? It is practically a gastronomy institution of Japan. It is much loved for good reason. The fact that it has been around for years says it all. They are are delicious bite sized pieces of karaage made from chickens raised domestically. Available nationwide. The price isn't bad either at 238 yen. And it made news in 2022 when they raised the price for the first time in 36 years. The hike was a bit steep at 22 yen per pack, but if they are only raising the price every 36 years, I have no problem with that!
The not so good
There is much debate about which is the best flavor. I've seen various polls online which put the cheese flavor at number 1. I do like the cheese flavor too, but I prefer the regular flavor. I suppose the other negative is that it is probably not that healthy. It sits in a warming unit for who knows how long. Although, because they sell so much of it, I would hope that batches are made throughout the day and don't sit in the warming unit for too long. I actually don't know where they make it. Is it on site? Shipped in? Thankfully, Japanese convenience stores are spotlessly clean so I trust that karage kun is well looked after!
