Monkeys, Serow, and a Simple Rule: Please Don’t Throw Stones

Monkeys, Serow, and a Simple Rule: Please Don’t Throw Stones photo

This sign was posted at a viewing deck for Unazuki Dam in Kurobe. It reads "Please don't throw stones at the monkeys and serow". There are wild macaque monkeys and Japanese serow, a type of goat antelope, in the area.

If a sign like that has been put up, it suggests that people had been throwing stones at the wild animals. I’d like to think, and hope, that what was really happening is that visitors were tossing small stones just to get the animals’ attention, probably to take a photo, rather than actually aiming to harm them.

Still, it should go without saying that you shouldn't throw stones at or even in the vicinity of wild animals or any living being.
