The description
This product is a specialty item of Kawagoe Baum Lab, a store specializing in Baum Kuchen run by Fueki Shoyu Ltd, in the tourist area of Kawagoe's "Little Edo".
The good
Cream Soda has long been a popular drink in Japan, but with the ongoing retro boom it is more popular than ever. You can get cream soda at so many stores, cafes and restaurants in every corner of Japan. But what makes this one special is that apart from the usual soda with ice-cream, it comes with a small slice of baum kuchen served on top of the ice-cream. That piece of Baum Kuchen actually tasted more like a cookie than your typical baum kuchen and added a nice crunch texture to the cream soda. There are four different flavors and they are only available seasonally. They also have an adorable looking limited-edition Halloween themed baum kuchen dessert currently available.
The not so good
The biggest drawback is that this particular cream soda is only available at Kawagoe Baum Lab and Shunkashuto udon restaurant, which is beside the baum kuchen store. Also, it is only seasonal, which is clearly written on the signs in the shop, but unfortunately those signs didn't mention any dates. In other words, it didn't say until when these limited-edition drinks are available. As above, there are only four different flavors, one of which is a coffee float, so they might not be flavors that cater to everyone's tastes. The biggest drawback (and the reason I deducted a star) is the price. I feel that 550 yen is expensive for a cream soda, especially when their limited-edition Halloween Baum Kuchen dessert is only 700 yen. The latter seems like better value in comparison.
