A day to give books to children

Its all about kids on May 5th annually in Japan. It stems from the traditional festival "Tango no Sekku" which was a celebration for boys, that led to a day for all children: "Children's Day". Which in turn brought about several anniversaries for children, such as "Toy Day", "Lego day" and Give Books to Children Day 子どもに本を贈る日 (Kodomo ni hon o okuru hi)

The "Give Books to Children Day" was created by the Tokyo-based book distributor "Tohan" to encourage families to share the joy of reading with children. Creating it on Children's Day makes perfect sense as it is a day when people are already more considerate of children. Moreover, some people will be considering ways to make childhood educational as well as fun and family orientated. Books are a great option.

To that end, many bookstores around Japan hold special campaigns inviting parents and grandparents to choose books to share with children that will spark curiosity and simultaneously family bonding.
