Chip Star on the Star Festival!
Today, and July 7th annually, is Chip Star Day チップスターの日 in Japan. Chip Star are a popular potato chip that come in a long, cylinder / can. The anniversary was created by Yamazaki Biscuit, the company behind the potato chip.
Yamazaki Biscuit chose July 7th for the anniversary of "Chip Star", because it is Tanabata. Tanabata is called the Star Festival in English, because Orihime and Hikoboshi are represented by the Star Vega and Star Altair respectively. Yamazaki Biscuit links the Star of Chip Star to the Stars of Tanabata to create a memorable anniversary date.
Chip Star is celebrating 50 years this year. They have been popular in Japan since their debut in 1976. Yamazaki Biscuit registered this anniversary with the Japan Anniversary Association to celebrate the anniversary and strengthen the brands presence.
