The description
This is a carbonation‑preserving pump cap sold at DAISO. It’s designed to help keep soda fizzy after opening by pumping air into the bottle to maintain internal pressure.
The good
First up, I did not buy this product, my husband did! But I am using it so I will review it. I am not sure it is something we particularly needed, but for just 100 yen, its no harm in trying it out! Even if we only use it a handful of times it will feel worth it. But in order to be ecological, I do hope we will get many, many uses out of it. It's a pretty cool concept too. The carbonation‑preserving pump cap is designed to help keep soda fizzy after opening a bottle of fizzy drinks. It works by pumping air into the bottle to maintain internal pressure. It fits standard 500 ml to 1.5 L plastic soda bottles in Japan.
The not so good
The product is lightweight and simple, but I am not sure how long it will last, especially as it’s meant for everyday use. It can be especially helpful if you don’t usually finish a bottle of fizzy drink in one sitting, which is very much the case in my house. The pump works, but it can feel a little bulky on top of the bottle, especially if your fridge shelves are tight or crowded. Plus you have to pump it, which can be tedious. Moreover, because it relies on manual pumping, the fizz‑saving effect can vary - if you don’t pump enough, the carbonation may still fade faster than expected. I appreciate the innovation though.
