A New Addition to Japan's Calendar: Famichiki Day

A New Addition to Japan's Calendar: Famichiki Day photo

Japan seems to have a commemorative day for almost everything, and 2026 welcomed a new one to the list: Famichiki Day ファミチキの日. The date, October 17th, was officially registered with the Japan Anniversary Association to celebrate the 20th anniversary of FamilyMart's famous fried chicken snack, Famichiki.

First released on October 17th, 2006, Famichiki quickly became one of the most recognizable convenience store foods in Japan. Its crispy coating and juicy chicken have attracted a loyal following over the years, making it a staple purchase for many convenience store visitors. To mark two decades of success, FamilyMart established Famichiki Day as a way to celebrate the product's history and popularity.

Unlike many long-established commemorative days, Famichiki Day is a brand-new addition to Japan's ever-growing collection of anniversaries. The first observance coincides with special promotions and limited-time products celebrating Famichiki's milestone year.

I think this one has the potential to become as famous as Pocky Day, which is probably one of the best known anniversaries annually. That's coming up on November 11th.
