Happy Constitution Memorial Day!
Today, and May 3rd annually, is Constitution Memorial Day 埼玉 県 オープン ザ ガーデン in Japan. It is one of the core holidays that make up Golden Week. It is usually a public holiday, but because it falls on a Sunday this year, the holiday will be given on Wednesday May 6th instead.
"Constitution Memorial Day" commemorates the enforcement of the post-war Japanese constitution on May 3rd ,1947. It is built on three principles: 1. National Sovereignty, 2. Respect for Fundamental Human Rights, and 3. Pacifism. The holiday was established in 1948 under the "Holiday Law" to honor the Constitution and celebrate the nation's peaceful state as well as its growth.
A lot of events start on May 3rd annually. Not particularly for "Constitution Memorial Day", but for Golden Week in general. However, there is one tradition that is specifically about "Constitution Memorial Day" and that is a the "Constitutional Rally" held at Ariake Park in Tokyo annually. Have you ever been to the Constitutional Rally event?
