Espresso Day, Celebrating Italy's Bold Coffee Culture
Today, and April 16th annually, is Espresso Day エスプレッソの日 in Japan. It is a commemoration established by De'Longhi Japan to honor one of Italy's most iconic contributions to global cafe culture.
The date of the anniversary comes from the 1906 Milan International Exposition, where the Bezzera company first presented "Caffe Espresso" to the world. A method that forever changed how coffee is brewed and enjoyed. Today, the Italian International Institute of Coffee Tasters also recognizes this day as Italian Espresso Day, underscoring its cultural significance.
Espresso is defined by its unique extraction method: hot water forced through finely ground dark-roasted beans at high pressure. It produces a small, concentrated cup rich in aroma and depth. The influence of the method extends beyond coffee, inspiring high-pressure tea extractions like the "Espresso Tea" series in Japan.

Former nickname was "Saitama". Changed it to save confusion on place review posts! Irish, 20+ years in Japan! I also write on my personal website: insaitama.com
