A day for coronet in Japan
Today, and May 6th annually, is Coronet Day コロネの日 in Japan. The anniversary was created by Yamazaki Bakery (Yamazaki Pan), one of Japan's largest and most familiar bread and confectionery makers. And the photo in this post is of one of their Coronet products. They have several, some of which you will find reviewed on City-cost.
The date of the anniversary comes from "goroawase", a popular Japanese wordplay system that turns numbers into syllables. In this case May 6th, 5/6, becomes "ko (5) ro (6) ne", the Japanese for coronet. The word "korone (corone)" traces back to the Italian "corno" meaning horn, the same root as the musical instrument cornet. This is due to the appearance of the coronet, with a hollow space - which is usually filled with cream or custard or another filling.
Coronet are relatively popular in Japan. I am not much of a fan because I don't like the artificial tasting pastry style of the coronet in Japan. But they are a popular seller in fresh bakeries and in Yamazaki's range of pre-packed bakery goods. Do you like the coronet in Japan?
