Home Education in conjunction with public education

Today, and July 14th annually, is A Day to think about Home Education 家庭教育を考える日 in Japan. I was quite surprised when I saw it on the anniversary list, because at first I thought it was day to promote "home schooling" in Japan. But on closer inspection it is a day to promote home education in conjunction with public education.

Based on the belief that education begins at home, the aim is to encourage families and guardians across Japan to rediscover the importance of home education centered on close parent‑child connection, and to create a day for society as a whole to reflect on what home education should be.

The date was chosen because the All‑Japan Home Education Research Association, who created this anniversary, was founded on July 14th, 1973, with the goal of establishing and promoting home education.
