The description

A non traditional daifuku, with the daifuku in reverse practically, by wagashi confectionist Hata Seika. The flavoring is on the outside and the mochi on the inside.

The good

This cute little chocolate daifuku is made with chocolate cream wrapped in mochi rice cake, drizzled with chocolate like a parfait, and topped with almonds. What makes it different to the daifuku that I am used to is that the mochi is on the inside. Usually its mochi on the inside with a piece of real fruit on the inside. This one, the mochi is covered in chocolate. Its nice chocolate too, with a good bite to it. Its a nice sensation having the hard chocolate outside with chewy mochi on the inside.

The not so good

I am not sure this can really be classified as daifuku? But I am no expert on daifuku. Only for my children it is not something I would normally purchase myself, even though I have quite enjoyed the various flavors of this type of daifuku by Hata Seika company limited. We got this product for 108 yen, but I think its usually more expensive. I am not sure its worth a higher price tag for this particular flavor, even though I like it. There is a great choice of daifuku out there and I think next time I will try another brand for variety. I haven't seen this brand of daifuku at other stores, so it may not be widely available. Have you ever seen it before?
