The description
An individually wrapped 'onigiri' triangle shaped Japanese rice ball with a filling of tuna flakes doused in mayonnaise sauce, wrapped in a sheet of 'nori' seaweed.
The good
The 7-11 convenience stores have a pretty decent selection of take out food including onigiri and sandwiches, suitable as a quick lunch. I usually go for their sandwiches, but I got to the convenience store just after noon and most of the sandwiches were sold out. The only ones they had left weren't to my taste. But they still had a few onigiri, including this tuna mayonnaise one, which is generally a safe bet and my joint favorite (with salmon) convenience store onigiri flavor. It is a convenient size and tied me over until I can get something more staple to eat.
The not so good
I don't understand why onigiri is so much more expensive in a convenience store than a shop or drug store, considering they are mass produced and you would think that they have economies of scale. However, in my neighborhood the most expensive place to buy an onigiri is the convenience store. I suppose you are paying for the 'convenience'! This range of onigiri in 7-11 is 128 yen before tax. In a nearby drug store you can get equally good onigiri for 88 yen and in the supermarket they are 100 yen.
