Papillon Appreciation Day
July 7th is Papillon Appreciation Day パピヨン ありがとうの日 in Japan. I think it is a fairly new addition to the Japan Anniversary Association's official list of anniversaries. The day was created and registered by a photo studio in Kanagawa Prefecture that specializes in taking dog photographs.
The Papillon is a small breed of dog, known for its butterfly-like ears and long, silky coat. July 7th, 7/7, was chosen as the date for "Papillon Appreciation Day", because 77 is the papillon's number in the Fédération Cynologique Internationale (FCI) dog classification system.
I met the papillon pictured in this post at a dog cafe in Saitama Prefecture. He was a cute little thing that seemed to have a big personality! Are you an owner or a fan of papillon dogs?

Former nickname was "Saitama". Changed it to save confusion on place review posts! Irish, 20+ years in Japan! I also write on my personal website: insaitama.com
