A day for soup
The Japan Soup Association was established in 1980, by soup manufacturing companies and others with the aim of developing Japan's soup industry. In 2020 they made December 22nd soup day スープの日.
The date was chosen as December 22nd for two reasons. One, its soup season - people eat more soup in colder weather. Two, a pun on the date helps create a catchphrase: "「いつ(12)もフーフー(22)とスープをいただく」"couples always eating soup together" .
The aim of "soup day" is to get more people interested in soup and increase consumption. Will you eat soup today!?

Former nickname was "Saitama". Changed it to save confusion on place review posts! Irish, 20+ years in Japan! I also write on my personal website: insaitama.com
